Prudence Carter Receives Career Award From the American Sociological Association
Prudence L. Carter, the Sarah and Joseph Jr. Dowling Professor of Sociology and the Peltz Ruttenberg Family Director of the Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, is the 2026 recipient of the Cox-Johnson-Frazier Award from the American Sociological Association. The award honors scholars with a sustained record of contributions to social justice; engagement in institution building and public-facing work; and a consistent focus on populations shaped by histories of racial and ethnic inequality.

Sophia Monegro is a new assistant professor of Africana studies at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She is a literary scholar working at the crossroads of Black women’s intellectual history, Dominican studies, and digital humanities. She is the author of the forthcoming book Architects of Relation: Black Women’s Social Thought From Santo Domingo to the Atlantic World.

Camille Borders is a new assistant professor of history at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. She is a social historian of nineteenth- and twentieth-century U.S. history with a specialty in women’s history and Black feminist thought. Through her work, she seeks to understand how Black people in America built, resisted, and thrived under the shadows of social and political domination

Mavis Nimoh Hired at Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers as Its CEO
Mavis Nimoh, MPA, CDP, has joined the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers as its Chief Operating Officer. Mavis brings over two decades of experience as a health care and public-sector executive to the Mass League, most recently serving as CEO of Tapestry Health Systems. Her leadership has contributed to national conversations and systems-level changes on health equity, behavioral health, and community engagement.
